Sustainable Venues For Your Company

Building your team with high regard for something ‘sustainable’ or ‘eco-friendly’ deserves a noble prize. This doesn’t only tell them that you’re serious in helping out the environment, but it’s just all-in-all inspiring as it shows them how little steps towards a goal matter to you.

Considering the activities that you may have prepared for your company team, and the intent that you want to instil, what could be more conducive for the environment except in a sustainable venue for your company’s next team building. It may not be comparable to the high-end formal venues in Melbourne, but the values that these venues stand for, and of course, the effort they put into sustainability, might make it all worthwhile.

Outlook: A café that serves up one of Sydney, Australia’s best breakfasts

How is it sustainable?

Chefs and owners Darren Robertson, Mak LebBrooy, and Shannon Debreceny runs their business while embracing an eco-friendly way of sourcing produce from their farm. Powered by solar panels at the rooftop, the farm sends all organic waste to residents and community gardens. Their food is served in biodegradable containers and the best effort is, the Blue Ducks support Grow It Local, which initiates the promotion and celebration of urban farming.

Team building activity suggestion:

Have a chill night with the rest of your crew. Eat a little, drink a little, laugh a little. More for the members who are new in the company. A side note, this may not be appealing to those who prefer a more adventurous activity that is offered by locations that offer outdoor activities like zip lining, but once in a while you or your employees might prefer something that is more sedated and relaxed. In such cases, chilling at a cafe is the perfect location for you.

Location: BONDI’S BEST

Outlook: Hole-in-the-Wall kind of a diner.

How is it sustainable?

Since its opening in 2011, Joel Best, the owner had established serving seafood that was caught sustainably by a responsible fisherman. Its reputation of serving the best Fish N’ Chips in Sydney, Tuna Bruschetta garnished with tomatoes, mushrooms, and Skull Island Banana Prawn Linguini topped with chilli and garlic is made possible by the Bondi Best Team. Every morning, they track down the freshest seafood there.

Team building activity suggestion:

Take advantage of the sea by planning beach sports for your team-building activities. The next best thing to going to a flying fox park, swimming afterwards could be refreshing for everybody too. Just make sure you schedule it in summer.

Outlook: A coffeehouse

How is it sustainable?

Located In Alexandria, every single grain of the roasted coffee was done by solar power at Single O’s headquarters. Every pack of beans you take home, every sip you make of the aromatic, rich blend, it came from environmental-friendly growers that are also ethically-sound when it comes to coffee. Recently, their campaign tells us that no single drop of milk is wasted while making coffee. It’s called The Juggler Café Milk tap System.

Team building activity suggestion:

Life-work balance should be given a chance to proliferate. The team-building team may put participants into groups and then they will be taught on how to make coffee. Of course, through the Juggler Café Milk Tap System. This gives them a sense of something new to do together through a sustainable practice which is the Juggler Café Milk Tap System. This learning doesn’t stop within the formed teams but also to their families at home.

Outlook: A coffeehouse

How is it sustainable?

Customers will be given rewards like one free coffee if they do car-pooling or if they ride bikes, all of them get a free coffee. It’s their way of encouraging people to get aligned with the grounds’ efforts for stopping further global warming by reducing carbon emissions. Also, waste being generated tremendously goes to their onsite composter. It’s The Grounds’ organic garden that supplies its kitchen of the products they need daily.

Team building activity suggestion:

Organize a fun morning bike ride with your crew and come by to this lovely sustainable organic café. It’s fun, it’s something different and on top of it all, they get to exercise and enjoy the scenery along the way. Not to mention, they get to appreciate fresh air and their lungs get worked up giving their blood proper circulation. Besides, it’s hip architecture with timber feature wall and flooring will be something to talk about. What a way to start the morning!

Lastly, we will talk about the importance of wood as a construction material for buildings or venues that want to be sustainable.

Rising demand for green buildings has positioned wood as a powerful and valuable alternative for sustainable structures which does not add unnecessary layers of compromise or cost building performance. Wood is immediately recognized as renewable by virtue of it being a renewable source. It develops naturally, and contemporary forestry standards harvest wood in a sustainable way to preserve the surroundings of the woods. Used in all sorts of structures from function rooms in Melbourne CBD to apartment buildings in Perth.

Utilizing Wood to Reduce Environmental Impact

If it comes to sustainability in construction, study points to the substantial edge wood have over comparable materials. Those include carbon emissions, the effect on water quality and total environmental impact when measured over the complete life cycle of the structural material.

A separate study looking at the life span of building materials used in both cold and warm climates found that total life-cycle emissions for wood houses were lower than comparable houses of concrete (by 31%) or steel (by 26%), even before accounting for the total amount of carbon stored in wood products.

Meanwhile, carbon emissions for the item are 4 kilograms for its timber variant, 40 kilograms for steel and 27 kilograms for concrete. Listed below are a couple of methods wood might help reduce a project’s overall environmental effect:

  • Reduced energy. Measured within its life –from material harvest through production, transportation, installation, usage, maintenance and recycling or disposal –timber outperforms concrete in overall carbon footprint reduction. It is also a popular option for all sorts of architectural parts from timber battens to room dividers.
  • Fewer greenhouse gas emissions. Global life-cycle assessment studies have proven that timber can offer lower greenhouse gas emissions, less air and water contamination, lower volumes of solid waste and less ecological resource usage than other substances.
  • Carbon sequestration. When timber is used at a construction, the carbon consumed by the tree since it grew is effectively locked away, often for decades and sometimes even longer.
  • Sustainability certification. Wood can make it simpler to achieve a third-party certificate for a project, improving its value and marketability.
