Toastmasters International

Re-engaging with Toastmasters has been on my “to-do” list for quite sometime.  Finally, tonight I crossed it off my list by visiting the  “Talking Heads” chapter of Toastmasters which meets in nearby Mountain View, CA.  As I expected, I encoutered a group of about a dozen friendly people, of which it was evident that several of them are accomplished speakers.

Having been on the “public speaking sidelines” for far too long, I didn’t fully engage in the meeting; still I did exercise my “public speaking muscles” at little with my self-introduction and comments at the conclusion of the meeting.  Though invited to participate, I opted out of the “table topics” portion of the meeting where they were being challenged to describe an image clipped from the web by the Table Topics Master.  Admittedly while some of the made up anwers offered in the form of a 1-2 mnute  speech were informative, some of them were rather humorous as well!

Whether your employed or not, I simply cant say enough good things about participating in Toastmasters.  It’s a great friendly place to master your public speaking skills in a friendly environment.   If you are in the San Francisco Bay Area, you can find a club close to you by visiting http://www.d4tm.org; or outside the area check out the Toastmasters International website here:  http://www.toastmasters.org.

Unfortunately my next 2 Thursday evenings were previously committed to other networking vents in support of my current job search; but I am looking forward to attending the meeting on March 12!
